About Us

We pride ourselves on being a friendly, inclusive group who stage entertaining, thought-provoking productions of a very high standard of excellence. Amateurs do theatre for the love of it and one of the things we love is to do the very best we can with every script we take on.

Productions

Our Committee is responsible for selection of a varied, interesting programme of productions.  We generally plan about 12 months in advance.  Any member can submit a play they would like to direct or see someone else direct.

Auditions are open to the public as well as members.  Anyone taking part must become a member, if only for insurance reasons.  We do not charge production fees and the Society provides all costumes and props.

Membership

Membership fees are:

Adult  £50

Child up to 18  £30

Contact the Membership Secretary on staustellplayers@gmail.com if you would like to join.

Compared to many amateur companies, we are lucky in having a permanent base, with set, costume and props storage on site as well as the theatre itself.

Directors set their own rehearsal schedule, according to the commitments of the cast, with usually two rehearsals per week.  Performances are usually over 4 nights in March, July and November.

Social Events

We are friends as well as colleagues in theatre so we like to get together for quizzes, play readings, games nights, improvisation sessions, Shakespeare Club and parties.  These happen when anyone has the time to organise them.

Workshops

We are always seeking to improve our theatre skills and organise occasional practical workshops, usually run by a professional theatre practitioner.  These have included work on accents, Shakespeare and physical comedy.  We always welcome suggestions for other workshops.
